Our Hosts
At the release party of the Wabano Women's Voices CD (December 2006), Michele approached the Carleton University Aboriginal Liaison Officer about the radio program that used to air on CKCU. After working with CU Liaison Office and recruiting a number of volunteers, our first meeting was called where we decided on our theme, our target and our mission. We then took our training, and produced our first show in March 2007. The rest is history.
Michele is the Main Producer of Aboriginal CKCU. She manages the website, the program schedule, organizing training for new volunteers, fund raising and general boss (or bossy) person at Aboriginal CKCU. She keeps the place organized and she asks for help when it is too much. It always gets done. Michele is Ojibway from Aamjiwnaang First Nation in southern Ontario.
Shirley Gagnon attended that first meeting and is considered to be the 2IC.

James in a new host too. He joined the team in March 2008.
Jaime is our Metis host originally from Lac La Biche, Alberta although she's been living in Ottawa for the past 8 years. Currently Jaime works as a Research and Development Officer with the Metis Settlements General Council and is attempting to complete an M.A. from Carleton University. Jaime is an exhibited artist, published author, amateur fiddle player and member of the professional Metis dance group, Jig on the Fly. Jaime's radio show is featured every fourth Sunday of the month and focusses on sharing various aspects of Metis culture, keeping Ottawa connected with the news on Aboriginal communities as well as featuring a number of Metis artists from various musical backgrounds. You'll probably most remember Jaime for including her three children, Hunter, Riley and Jacob on the shows!
